How I Got Started

When I was a freshman in high school, the special education teacher gave a presentation in one of my classes. She explained about the population she worked with, and what she loved about her job. Her presentation caught my attention, and I set up a time to meet with her. I volunteered over 500 hours in the special education classroom throughout my high school career. I learned how special, ambitious, and amazing all her students were. The positive impact they had on my life cannot be expressed in words. I knew that working with these individuals was something I had passion for, and wanted a career in.

My Background

I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in human services leadership through the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh in 2020. While working towards my degree, I worked as a paraprofessional at Hortonville Area School District. I also worked as a caregiver in the summers for several of the students. When COVID shut down in person learning, I took on a new role in IT. I learned many things in this role, the biggest being, I wanted to help people. I began researching different ways I could provide care to individuals with disabilities, and later became a certified adult day care!
